Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider operating that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email or direct message long enough to review and answer it. It is not shared beyond our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, routine server and analytics records may capture these technical details:
- Page-view dates and times
- Pages visited and approximate time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- Referring website, when available
- The device’s Internet Protocol address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. We and analytics services may use them to understand traffic patterns, popular pages, and where visits end. Browser controls can reject cookies, although some site functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a query to the selected search provider
- Maintaining site speed, availability, and security
- Finding and correcting technical faults
- Measuring which pages visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Grant County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Grant County Sheriff, local courts, the West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau, WVDCR, and the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not turned into a consumer report or a file about another person. West Virginia criminal-history dissemination by CIB is governed by W. Va. Code §15-2-24; this private site does not replace that official process.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes displayed here. Their own privacy terms govern the information submitted to them, including retention and sharing decisions. We do not control those practices, so review the provider’s policy before using its tool.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Grant County offices, West Virginia courts, state agencies, legal resources, or commercial search providers. Once you leave this site, the destination’s policy controls its collection and use of data. Review that policy before providing personal information.
Advertising services may use their own technology to measure activity across websites and choose ads. That processing occurs under the advertiser’s systems and terms.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring site use and performance
- Search providers processing a query submitted to their tool
- Advertising networks serving content on a page
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected information. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This service is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Your location may provide rights beyond those described here. The West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, W. Va. Code ch. 29B, art. 1, governs records held by public bodies, while W. Va. Code §15-2-24 governs state criminal-history dissemination. Those laws do not turn this private site into a public custodian or CIB repository. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Request access to personal information we retain about you
- Ask that inaccurate retained information be corrected
- Request deletion where the law permits it
- Object to certain processing where a right applies
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as site practices change. A new version becomes available on this page and carries its updated effective date.
