Grant County Arrest History
The Grant County Sheriff, Petersburg Police, Bayard Police, West Virginia State Police, and Natural Resources Police may create arrest records within their authority. Each agency retains its own report. Grant County does not operate a county-branded jail roster because local arrestees enter West Virginia's regional-jail system. Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Correctional Facility in Augusta serves Grant along with four other counties.
An arrest history is not one document. The officer's report, booking entry, fingerprints, complaint, bail order, prosecutor's charging choice, and final disposition are related but held by different custodians. A jail record can establish custody at a point in time. It cannot establish guilt. The final court judgment carries the outcome, while a fingerprint-linked West Virginia State Police CIB transcript serves a different statewide record-review purpose.
Find Grant Arrests Through WVDCR
The WVDCR Offender Search hub separates Daily Incarcerations, regional Jail Offender Search, Prison Offender Search, and escapee or absconder information. For a recent Grant County arrest, Daily Incarcerations or the jail search is the logical first check. Prison Search is for sentenced state custody and should not replace the regional-jail tool.
The hub shows why one Grant County arrest lookup may require two custody systems. If the jail endpoint is inaccessible or identity is uncertain, call Potomac Highlands at 304-496-1275. A missing web result is not proof that an arrest did not occur.
Looking Up Grant County Arrests
No official Grant Sheriff arrest blotter, booking gallery, most-wanted page, or mobile app was located. The reliable route is a chain of official sources, chosen by record type. Use a full name, approximate arrest date, location, report or case number, and the suspected arresting agency when available.
- Search WVDCR Daily Incarcerations and regional Jail Offender Search for recent or current custody. If the service fails, call Potomac Highlands at 304-496-1275.
- Identify the arresting agency and request its incident or arrest report. For the Grant Sheriff, call 304-257-1818 before sending a written request because no form or fee is published.
- Search the free Magistrate Record Search for the complaint, bond, and early case trail, then call the Magistrate Clerk for documents.
- If an indictment followed, contact the Circuit Clerk. For a fingerprint-based statewide personal record, use WVSP CIB and IdentoGO with the required authorization.
- When routine channels fail, submit a focused West Virginia FOIA request to the agency that created the record and ask for segregable nonexempt portions.
VINE adds custody status and notification service through 1-866-WV4-VINE and VINELink. It is useful for changes in custody, but it is not a complete Grant County arrest history or court-outcome source.
Grant Sheriff Arrest Report Requests
The Grant County Sheriff's published duties include arrest, process service, prisoner transport, and enforcement of court orders. Those functions create incident and arrest reports, execution records, and transport material. The county has not published a separate records manager, counter hours, online request vendor, standard form, fee schedule, or turnaround time. Call first and state the date, place, name, report number, and desired format.

The page identifies the right office for Sheriff-created arrest records. Reports created by Petersburg Police, Bayard Police, WVSP, or Natural Resources Police must instead be requested from that agency.

Inside a Grant County Arrest Record
Official process supports several categories of arrest and booking data, but Grant agencies do not promise that every field will be publicly displayed. The arresting report focuses on the incident and alleged offense. WVDCR intake focuses on identity, commitment, property, screening, and custody. Some medical, security, juvenile, victim, and investigative information can be withheld or redacted.

Six Grant Arrest Records Created
One Grant County arrest can produce six linked records. First, the arresting agency creates an incident or arrest report. Second, the transport and WVDCR staff create intake and booking records. Third, the jail takes fingerprints and a photograph, records property and screening, and enters custody data. Fourth, Magistrate Court creates the complaint, initial appearance, bond, and early felony record.
Fifth, the prosecutor may change the charges, and a grand-jury indictment can move a felony to Circuit Court. Sixth, the court's disposition is reported toward CIB, where it can be matched to the fingerprint arrest cycle. A gap may arise when a disposition has not yet been reported or linked. For that reason, compare the source court file with the CIB record when reviewing or challenging your own history.

Booking Logs and Recent Arrests
Grant County has no verified local live blotter. WVDCR Daily Incarcerations is the official current-custody alternative. It can help locate a recent regional-jail admission, but a roster is not a lifetime arrest list. Entries can change after release or transfer, identity matching can be uncertain, and the modern OIS endpoint may be unavailable. Call the regional facility when the online tool cannot resolve identity or location.
Potomac Highlands is at 355 Dolan Drive in Augusta and serves Grant County even though it sits in Hampshire County. The facility's main line is 304-496-1275. VINE can provide custody notices, but WVDCR states that transfers are not announced until arrival at the receiving facility. The arrest report still comes from the arresting agency, and the final disposition still comes from the clerk.
Note: A current-custody list can change quickly and should always be checked against the agency report and court docket.
Route Grant Arrest Records by Agency
Petersburg Police records should be requested through the city route. Research located a 2023 police number of 304-257-1100 and the City Hall number 304-257-4944; confirm the current records contact before sending a request. Bayard Police exists in the state public-safety network, but a current official records number was not verified. Start with the municipality or Grant 911 referral rather than inventing a direct channel.
A state trooper or Natural Resources Police officer can also make an arrest in Grant County. In that event, the Sheriff may have transport or court-process material without holding the officer's narrative. Ask which agency assigned the incident number before making a records request. This one step reduces delay because West Virginia FOIA works through the public body that keeps the existing record; it does not require one agency to create a combined arrest history from files held elsewhere.

Arrests Are Not Convictions
An arrest records an allegation and custody event. A conviction is a court judgment of guilt. Prosecutors may amend or decline charges, grand juries may return no bill, and courts may dismiss or acquit. Even where conviction follows, the final offense and sentence may differ from the jail's initial charge description. The court judgment is the source for the result.

For the filed charges, pleas, judgment, and sentence, use the Grant County criminal court case search and obtain the source documents from the correct clerk.
Dismissed Grant Arrests May Remain
A dismissal does not necessarily erase every arrest record. Agency and repository history may remain until a source correction or a qualifying expungement is completed. W. Va. Code ยง61-11-25 may permit relief after acquittal, a qualifying dismissal, successful pretrial diversion, or deferred adjudication, subject to exclusions and timing rules. Eligibility is not automatic.
For an error in your own CIB history, first compare the fingerprint-supported record with the originating court disposition. The court or arresting agency must correct its source data before CIB can reflect the change. WVSP's challenge route uses form WVSP-136A and a verified $20 personal-review fee. Juvenile records and other protected data follow separate restrictions.
The repository route is not an anonymous public name search. West Virginia law requires written, signed, acknowledged authorization from the subject for nongovernmental CIB dissemination. WVSP directs fingerprint capture through IdentoGO and states that its headquarters no longer performs the check. A local law-enforcement office is not a substitute for that channel. For self-review, follow the current WVSP form directions, then take any charge or disposition mismatch back to the Grant County court or agency that originated it.
West Virginia FOIA can also help obtain an existing agency record. Section 29B-1-3 supplies the request right, while Section 29B-1-4 permits specified privacy and law-enforcement withholding. Ask for nonexempt portions and a written legal basis for redactions.
